Why You Need a Plumbing Inspection

If you’re not having plumbing problems in your home, you probably think you don’t need a plumbing inspection.  We disagree.  What you can’t see CAN hurt you, especially when you’re talking about problems in your home.  Your plumbing system is a perfect example.  Most of the elements of your plumbing system are behind walls and underneath floors, so you don’t necessarily know when you have problems – until it’s too late.  And major breakdowns in your plumbing system can be extremely damaging to your home and costly to fix.

Why will you have plumbing problems?  Because three factors are working against your plumbing system.  Check out the infographic below to learn more.

The Three Enemies of Your Home’s Plumbing System

To expand on the infographic, the three enemies of your home’s plumbing system are:

1. Water Pressure – Plumbing components are tested to work under 80 psi of water pressure.  Anything more than this will compromise your system.  As the Greenville, Spartanburg, and Hendersonville areas grow in population, our water system has to increase the pressure at which it is delivering the water so that all the homes have enough water pressure.  This need causes some homes to have too much water pressure, which causes plumbing components in the home to break.

2. Age – Just like the parts of your body, the parts of your plumbing system break over time.  Metal working parts might break, rubber parts wear out, and seals deteriorate.

3. Water Quality – In our area, water hardness is not an issue, so many people don’t worry about water quality.  However, we do have chlorine in our water, and chlorine breaks down rubber parts.

Any plumbing problems you have in your home will stem from one or more of these three things.  Five Star’s plumbing safety inspection can catch the start of the plumbing problems before they become major issues.
