Air Filter Replacement

Air Filter Replacement

How often should you change your home air filter?  That all depends on what kind of filter you have.  In this video, Larry Sinn of Five Star Plumbing Heating Cooling of Greer, SC, goes through some of the types of filters and how often you should replace them.  Here are some examples:

  • If you have a whole house air filter, you can change it once a year.

  • If you have pleated filters in your return air grills, you should change them every 2-3 months.

  • If you have expanded fiber filters (what we call the “rock stoppers”), you should change them every month because they don’t pick up much. The oil impregnation in the fibers are what will pick up the fine pieces of dirt.

The main  thing to know about filtration is that you can either buy a filter or be the filter.  If you don’t stop the dirt before it gets into your home, the dirt will collect on your furniture, your curtains, your floor, and your body.  Therefore, you should really consider investing in a whole house filter for your home.  For more information, visit our post, “Best Air Filter for Home.”
