Bonus Room Insulation and Zoning

Man inspecting Vent.

Are you dealing with a bonus room over your garage that is hot in the summer and cold in the winter? We call the bonus room over your garage a FROG – Finished Room Over Garage. A standard heating and cooling contractor will tell you that you can’t do anything about the temperature in your FROG. The reason your FROG is hot in the summer and cold in the winter is that:

  • It is a space with little to no insulation.
  • You don’t have enough ductwork feeding into the room.
  • You have no way to measure and control the temperature.

So, to solve the heating and cooling problem in your bonus room or FROG is to insulate it properly and to put a zone in.  You would need to install a separate thermostat in the room.  The separate thermostat could sense the temperature in the room and make your air conditioning unit run even after the unit has shut off for the main house.

Bonus room insulation and zoning might sound a bit complicated, but it’s pretty simple.  If you’d like to know more, give us a call.
